Chinese Primer (Pinyin): Lessons; Notes & Exercises; Character by Ta-Tuan Ch'en, Four experienced teachers of beginning Chinese have developed this introductory textbook. CLICK HERE Oh, China!: Elementary Reader of Modern Chinese for Advanced Beginners by Chih-P'Ing Chou, "Oh, China! is a textbook for the growing number of "advanced beginners" who are studying Mandarin Chinese. These are students who, usually because of their Chinese family backgrounds, can speak simplified chinese and understand elementary Mandarin, but cannot read or write well enough for an intermediate course. Most first-year texts serve advanced beginners poorly by focusing on elementary vocabulary simplified chinese and conversation that the students already know. In contrast, this book offers help with what they most need: reading simplified chinese and writing, grammar, simplified chinese and achievement of standard pronunciation. The content of the lessons has also been chosen to appeal specifically to advanced beginners. Simplified Chinese character - Simplified Chinese characters (Simplified Chinese: 简体字; Traditional Chinese: 簡體字; pinyin: jiǎntǐzì; also called 简化字/簡化字, jiǎnhuàzì) are one of two standard character sets of printed contemporary Chinese written language. The other set is Traditional Chinese characters. Second-round simplified Chinese character - The second round of Chinese character simplification was officially promulgated on 20 December 1977 by the People's Republic of China, and replaced the existing (first-round) simplified Chinese characters that were already in use. The complete proposal contained a list of 248 characters that were to be simplified immediately, as well as another list of 605 characters that were open to discussion.
